Cultivating Curiosity, Building Connection
Artist in Residence
The Water Collective Artist Residency is an interdisciplinary program based in Rehoboth Beach that connects artists, coastal scientists, and environmentalists to collaboratively explore ecological systems and environmental change. By integrating artistic practice with scientific research, the residency supports the development of immersive, thought provoking art and dialogue that engages the public in environmental awareness. The program supports artists historically excluded from traditional residency opportunities, offering time, space, and meaningful cross disciplinary access to develop ambitious work. Artists at all career stages, including emerging, mid career, and established are encouraged to apply. The residency is free to apply and includes accommodations on a modest homestead located a short distance from downtown Rehoboth Beach, Lewes Beach, Cape Henlopen State Park, and Delaware Seashore State Park. A simple continental breakfast is provided during the residency. Please note that transportation and additional meals are not covered.

Gain insight into the patterns and impacts of debris, as well as the ecological and structural challenges shaping the inlet and it’s beaches, while considering practical ways to support and protect this fragile coastline, waterway, and ecosystem.
This experience includes a walking tour over potentially uneven or rough terrain, so participants should be physically prepared and aware of site conditions.
The program operates on a sliding scale donation basis and can accommodate up to three participants.
Surf Check
Have you ever wondered why waves break the way they do? Why some days are choppy and wind blown, others offer clean, peeling lines, and sometimes the ocean goes completely flat? This program explores the fundamentals of surf conditions and coastal dynamics, helping you better understand what shapes the waves. Participants will learn how to read conditions at a Delaware surf spot of your choice and where to find reliable tools and resources for surf forecasting and observation.
